Border Cross Country League Final Match 7th March 2010
"Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC young athletes hit top form in the last of this seasons Border Cross Country League fixtures at Lightwater. Four individual wins, a second and two thirds were notched up from the 8 age group Races with 52 of the Club's athletes in action . The 2 oldest age groups in action were the under 15s and in the Girls race Jenny Helyar dominated, running with her rivals on the first lap Jenny moved away strongly on the second to win by a 10 second margin in 11m51s and also take the League title as well. In the Boys under 15 race Richard Fernando moved through on the 2nd lap of his race to gain 3rd in 16m14s and take the bronze medal overall.
The Club notched up double wins in the under 13s and it was Jonty Davison who produced his best ever form with a superb win. Starting very positively in this race Jonty was always to the front of the Field and came home in 10m57s for an 11 second win. Out of the medals prior to this event, this performance took Jonty up to 3rd overall
In the Girls event Gemma Wildash notched up her 3rd win of the season and led throughout to win in a time of 11m10s for the 2 laps around lightwater Country Park.
There was a close tussle between 2 of the Clubs under 11 Boys in their race, having swopped places several times during the event, Matthew Comer took 2nd in 10m36s while William Edwards in only his second ever race placed 3rd just 4 seconds down. Both of them unable to get near the winner from Aldershot, however Matthew with this run secured a top 6 medal overall. The League which has runners from Aldershot, Bracknell, Camberley, Guildford, Fleet, Windsor and Woking has been pretty competitive and to gain an overall medal athletes have had to be very consistent. One athlete who has been that is Lucy Wildash in the under 11 Girls race, with 2 wins and a 2nd under her belt prior to the race, Lucy made no mistake winning by a big margin in 6m10s, 21secs clear of the 2nd place athlete and take the overall title
In the under 9s Basingstoke did really well with Sophie Bundock placing 3rd in 6m17s, Taylr Wegg 4th in 6m23s, Rebecca Bullock 9th in 6m44s and Minnie McDougall 10th in 6m50s and collectively they took the overall Team award for that age group and the Basingstoke top 3 received overall top 6 awards. In the under 9 Boys Lewis Avenell was 6th in 6m04s and placed 3rd overall to complete a very successful day for BMHAC."
