British Athletics League Match 2 Eton 4th July 09
Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC improved on their first showing in the British Athletics League National Division 1 by finishing a superb 3rd in the second match held at Eton last Saturday. With one event the 4 x400m left to go on Saturday Basingstoke were 4th, 10points behind Kent AC, however Basingstoke finished 2nd in the race to gain 14 points while Kent AC were disqualified so BMHAC overtook their closest rivals to be 3rd overall in the League.
The match scores at Eton were:
1 Belgrave H 333 points, 2 Windsor S,E & H 319, 3 Basingstoke &M, H 285, 4 Kent AC 281, 5 Gateshead H 258, 6 Border H 249, 7 C of Liverpool 233.5, 8 Notts AC 218.5 and Basingstoke fully deserved their 3rd place with a string of fine individual performances.
Andy Blow got the day off to a good start with a 50.9s clocking in the 400m Hurdles, another Club record and Personal best to win in convincing style. Richard Fox followed this up to win the B event in another PB of 52.9s.
Good performances were notched up thoughout the afternoon, these included another fine set of performances from Ben Hazell culminating in a best in the Discus with a PB of 46.99m for 2nd in the A string. The Relays proved to be good points earners with the 2nd place in the 4 X 400m in 3m16.3s and 5th in the 4 X 100m with 43.4s to consolidate the Clubs position.
