National Junior Athletics League;  Portsmouth April 26th

This match was open to athletes in the Under 20 and Under 17age group. The number of competitors available were low due to a clash of fixtures with the Alder Valley  Boy’s League match taking place on the same day. The bright performances matched the weather Joe Flitcoft opened the day with a 30m plus Hammer throw to gain second place in the competition. Then quickly went to the 400m H for 6th place in 66.6sec. Kirsty Piper followed Joe in the Hammer making 3rd place in the Women’s event with a throw of 23.31m just short of her seasons best.

The only individual winner from the Basingstoke/Andover (a combined team) was young Adam Harwood from Andover who stormed his way to win the 200m in 22.9. Adam also raced his way to a second place in the 4x400 relay at the end of the day with a 49.3 relay leg.

The combined team fielded a 4x 100m relay team who safely returned the baton home and of course the customary 4x400m completed the track programme with a very exciting race Basingstoke narrowly edged out of first place by Team Southampton.

Thanks to the officials Mr Flitcroft, Gill Piper who helped in the Hammer judging, Martin Jones and John Tobin who tracked judged, without that help we could not compete in the match.
