South of England Cross Country Champships 2009

A number of Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC athletes performed excellently at a very muddy Hillingdon House Farm when the South of England Cross Country Championships were held there last Saturday. Under testing conditions a number of the Clubs athletes finished in the top 20 as the course became very heavy in places.
 
In the first race of the day Chris Ladhams ran very well to finish 18th of the 252 competitors in the under 15 Boys event and was backed in this race by Toby Smith 31st, Jake Sellwood 72nd and Louie Penny 128th for the Team to finish 9th. In the under 13 Boys Brendan O'Connor was the best place athlete finishing 92nd of the 244 runners. The under 13 Girls had Charlotte Chalwin as the leading Basingstoke athlete in 19th place of the 221 runners with teammate Jenny Helyar 32nd.
 
The Smith Sisters Spohie and Katie competed well in the under 17s, Sophie placing 50th and Katie 67th. Another top 20 placer was Jonathan Bradford in the under 17 Men's coming home 19th of 180 while companian Stephen Reid  was 72nd. In the Senior Men's Race Phil Tulba plodded over the saturated 9 mile course to finish 43rd of 672 runners .
