Club Championship
After 9 of 12 championship races
For the club awards the championship table will of
course be split by the different age categories so if I don’t have you in the
correct category or if I don’t have an age category for you on the table could
you please e-mail me to let me know & I’ll add any changes.
Don’t
forget that if you’ve missed a race these last 3 races are your chance to get 8
high or should that be low score races!
The remaining races are:
Park run 5k - any Sat 9:00 (up to the end of Sept), Overton 5
mile 5th September, New Forest
Half Marathon 27th September.
Unfortunately for anyone that
hasn’t already entered the New Forest Half Marathon I’ve been told that it’s now
full! I hadn’t realized that this race would fill up
quite as quick as it has, but if anyone can come up with a suggestion for
another half marathon around the same time that we could use as an alternative
I am open to suggestions. But it will
have to be a half marathon that is going to either be more difficult than or at
least as hard as the New Forest Half is.
Tuesday night training
Put all your hard work from Tuesday night training
sessions with Don & Tim to good use and see if you can improve your 5k time
at the Park run any Saturday between now the end of September. The training sessions that both Tim & Don
have been working us through these last few months have been aimed at improve
your 5k time and the
Thursday
night groups
Wally has kindly agreed to take a slower group on
Thursday nights this will be a welcome addition to the club runs allowing the
newer runners & those coming back from injury to join in on the Thursday
night runs without any pressure. These are designed for 10-11 minute milers and
will be for 1 hour only starting from the track at the normal time.
Results
Overton
Mob Match – This race was a late addition to the club championship
as until the very last it looked like this would not be running this year. Unfortunately we were only told by Overton
that they would be challenging us to this annual race between our clubs when it
was too late for us to be able to organise our leg. But even though Overton had the home
advantage we still managed to win!!!!
Not that we gloated ;-)
Yateley
10k With 3 races to choose from the Yateley 10k had the
highest overall turn out with 38 runners competing in one or more of the races.
The first of the 3 races saw the best
conditions with the 2nd race the hottest!
Gibbett Challenge This was the
first club running of this race. It was
a very low key run with only 48 runners in total. Of that there were 12 our club runners and
another 5 from Basingstoke Athletics Club. I hope everyone enjoyed the race as much as I
did. Ok it was hard with even harder
hills both up and down! But if you had
the energy to enjoy it the route was good and in places had a wonderful view,
that’s as long as you could breathe & look at the same time. With the challenging course I’m amazed at the
times that were achieved. At only 13
Toby Smith one of the younger Basingstoke A.C. runners managed to finish in 34
minutes and 3rd overall in the race. This was no mean achievement.
Pub run
We’ve now had two pub run this summer and been very lucky with the
weather on both. I hope everyone has
enjoyed these runs and if you have any ideas for the next run please do arrange
it for any Thursday. Now the Yateley
series has finished any Thursday would be ok but the more notice you can give
the better as that way hopefully more club members will be able to make it.
Track
upgrade fund
As
part of the fund rising for the track upgrade the club is again selling lottery
tickets. I meant to bring them along to
the last pub run but sorry I forgot but if you want to purchase or are able to
sell any tickets for the Athletic Club please let me know any Tuesday or
Thursday evening. The draw is to take
place on Thursday 31st December and the tickets are £1 each, the
prizes are 1st £200, 2nd £100 & 3rd
£50.
