Club Championship

 

After 5 of 12 championship races Sam Williams is in overall lead - well done to Sam but there are still 7 races to go and each runners best 8 results count.  So those that have missed a race so far have a chance to catch up the 50 point’s added to their total score by making sure that they compete in at least 8 races. 

 

The Midhurst 10k in August was included in the remaining 8 races but we have been informed that it’s not running this year but as the Overton Mob Match is now back on this race is now include & replaces Midhurst in our club championship table.  We now have the following remaining races:

 

Park run 5k - any Sat 9:00 (up to the end of Sept),  Yateley 10k -  3rd June, 1st July or 5th August 7:30, Overton Mob Match 18th June 7:30, Tadley 10k July 5th, Gibbet Challenge 7.5k race 12th July 2:00, Overton 5 mile, New Forest Half Marathon 27th Sept.

 

Results

 

Alton 10  Tracy, Becky & Zoe came home from the Alton 10 as winners of the female team & the silver plate they won is on display in the club hut.  Tracy was also the 3rd Senior Lady finisher, Becky was the 3rd 30+ finisher so well done to them all.

 

Shinfield 10k   Ray Bowden finished the Shinfield 10k in 41:57 mins which got him the 1st place in the 60+ category.  Well done to Ray on this great time! 


Emsworth Relay Race  The Road Runners entered 5 teams they were:

 

The Basingstoke Bugatti – this team consisted of Peter Grigoleit, Mark Slaney, Dave Meacock, Don Powell, Tim Fowler, and John Bigg.  They finished an impressive 2nd  only 45 seconds behind the winners in a time of 4 hours 53 minutes.

Steve's All Stars - in this team were Sarah Gaskell, Dave Gaskell, Katie Carter, Keiron Ross, Zoe Collins & Steve Jeffery.  They won 1st place in the mixed category and were 3rd overall finishing in a time of 5 hours 6 minutes.

The Basingstoke & Mid Hants ‘A’ Team – A combination of roadrunners & track and field runners consisting of Dan Short, Sophie Smith, Sam Bevan, Katie Smith, Ian Smith & Mark Bevan.  The team finish in 4th place closely tracking Steve’s All Stars in a time of 5 hours 11 minuets.

Where’s Wally team consisted of Craig Wadeson, Wally Thorpe, John Moule, Graeme Hall, Mick O’Neill & Bob Froud.  They finished 18th and were the 4th Basingstoke team home finishing in a time of 6hours 58 minuets.

Tom’s Totties team consisted of Carol Wadeson, Helen Froud, Terri Craig, Jenny Froud, Paula Steckiw, Julie Keough and our driver Tom Steckiw.   Finished in 21st place in a time of 7 hours 9 minuets but the competition at the back of the field was no less a battle that that at the front of the race just slower.  

 

South Down’s Relay 6th June 09

 

Tim has entered two teams (each team consists of 6 runners & a driver) for this years South Down’s Relay race.   The 97 mile relay race starts from Beachy Head, Eastbourne & follows the long distance footpath to Winchester. Not surprisingly each section consists of not only wonderful scenery but also many steep hills!

The A team consists of Steve Jeffery, Dave Meacock, Keiron Ross, Matt Hallin, Peter Grigoleit & Dave Gaskell & they will be starting at 8am. 

The B team consists of Zoe Collins, Katie Carter, Sarah Gaskell, John Bigg, Mark Slaney & Tim Fowler they have been allocated the earlier 6am start.

Pub run

 

The first pub run of this summer is on Thursday 11th June 6:45 for a 7:00 start.  Meeting at The Calleva Arms, Silchester.  This is a 6 mile run off road route through Pamber Heath & Silchester Forest taking in Silchester’s roman wall, Amphitheatre & 12th Century Church.  Finishing at The Calleva Arms for a well earned pub lunch.  The next pub run will be from The Jolly Farmer pub in Cliddesden on the 16th July.

 

 

Track upgrade fund

 

As part of the fund rising for the track upgrade the club is again selling lottery tickets.  If you want to purchase or are able to sell any tickets for the Athletic Club they are available from me at the trackside any Tuesday or Thursday evening.  The draw is to take place on Thursday 31st December and the tickets are £1 each, the prizes are 1st £200, 2nd £100 & 3rd £50.
